At the same time, Statistics South Africa reported that 1.9 million South Africans were running non VAT registered businesses in 2023, with informal sector employment accounting for 19.5% of total employment in the fourth quarter of 2024. Stats SA also identified marketing support as a significant need among informal businesses.

These numbers tell us something important.
